Chapter 16: Mastering the Consultation Room

The Consultation Room Is Where Success Happens

Mastering the consultation room is one of the most important skills you can develop as an orthodontist. The key takeaways:

Talking too much kills the deal. Keep explanations simple, clear, and focused on what the patient cares about.
Let your treatment coordinator do the heavy lifting. They should lead the conversation while you reinforce the decision.
Find personal connections. Sometimes, talking about sports, school, or shoes is more powerful than talking about teeth.
Explain treatment in a way patients understand. Avoid jargon and focus on benefits, not features.
Make the process feel easy and comfortable. The more confident and reassured the patient feels, the more likely they are to move forward.
